Taste and See!

While picking some of the last remnants of blueberries with my dad, the topic of favorite fruits arose. Peaches. Blueberries. Mangos. Oh yeah! Mangosteen. My dad asked what it was like. I attempted to describe it. What it looks like. What it tastes like: the first taste is slightly sour which reminded me of a huckleberry. Then it is sweet. The flavors then overwhelm your taste-buds and there is no way to explain the intense flavor! I realized that my attempt was futile. There is no word-picture that could describe it. There was only one way that my dad could understand why I love mangosteens! He must eat one.

"O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him." (Psalms 34:8)

A dynamic speaker can tell us about Him. A gifted writer can inscribe how they got to know Him. A beautiful musician can sing how much they love Him. A caring teacher can explain how to draw close to Him. Listen. Read. Does that mean we know Him? No, we must experience Him ourselves.

  1. I pray my experience with eating mangosteen is not representative of my relationship with God (since all I know about mangosteens is what you've told me). I want my love for God to be paralleled to my love for blueberries, mangoes, peaches, and huckleberries.
